I was never a fan of the bonus point as I didn't want to see failure rewarded in sport and if we have professional attitude in players (and I feel we do) then they should still see them giving full effort for 80mins without having a false incentive to make a game of it.
However i've seen a few games this season where teams have seemingly put some effort in to (I presume) gain a bonus point so was slowly coming around to it.
Its not something i've been overly fussed with until I read a comment on the VT that made me realise York would have been (possibly may still be) relegated despite winning more games than Hunslet.
York finished below them due to Hunslets bonus points in defeat.
In the SL system of points (or the old way of doing it) York would have finished on 11 points, Hunslet on 9 as it is Hunslet finished with 20 points, York 19.
Aside from the fact York are third bottom (as Toulouse had the non relegation clause) surely the fact a team that has won more games but could get relegated whilst a team that has lost more remained up is worthy of at least reviewing clubs opinions on the 3 points for a win and a bonus point for a loss
