When Smith took over, Briers was quickly out of the team.



I thought he was going to have a big clear out, freshen the team and other staff up and wipe the slate clean.



Now he's back in the team and has a new contract. Slightly odd.



Either Briers is the master of puppets at Wire or between them they feel they can work together and move the club onwards together.



Their recent form would back the latter up. But we know this good form doesn't last long.



Time will tell if this was the right decision to make. I'm not convinced. New blood, shedding the dead skin is part of the healing process. It just seems Tony is happy with that old crusty scab on his knee that won't heal.

Smith's appraisal of Briers sounds like they work extremely well together.

But you would expect him to say that. He wouldn't announce if there was friction between them, for example.

My guess is that Smith dropped Briers as a "marker" to the rest of the squad when he first joined, but since then Briers has knuckled down and done what has been expected of him.



As for Myler, this is a 1 year deal, so both players contract's expire at the same time. Depends if Salford want to cash in at the end of the season or are prepared to let him see his contract out.

He has another year left on his Salford contract. I've been told Warrington have signed him on a 5 year deal, they must not have been able to negociate an early release.

Is Monaghan definitely going to be at Wire next year?



Also...word out on da street is that Briers is buddies with Warrington's owner.

It's an interesting one this. I don't think many people would question Briers' talent. What I have always questioned (and usually not come up with a positive answer) is his heart and his attitude. Can Smith get those issues sorted out? If so, shame it's come so late in the guy's career. I can't help feeling that he's never become the player he should have been because he's been held back by being a bit of a whiny bee-yatch.
