Because of the franchise system and the differences between Hull and Rovers, I've unintentionally learned a little about accountancy since joining RLfans. One thing seems clear to me - a good RL club accountant is as much about advocacy as accuracy. You can't flat-out lie, but figures can be manipulated and presented in different ways to create different narratives. In the past the Hull board thought it desirable to show profits to be able present themselves as capable custodians - and they were able to do that. AP has a different agenda - it suits him to be the saviour. So poor figures are reported. Pleading poverty also works well in terms of trying to get a better deal on the KC - it's clearly no coincidence that that story came out the same day. So while Rovers trolls/fans might be amused that the KC is being presented as an onerous burden, nothing has really changed - AP knew that agreement as well as anyone. In part, it'll be about appearing weak to strengthen a negotiating position.

[uI'm not saying that things haven't taken a turn for the worse[/u, but that a reversal of spin probably makes it seem more serious than it is.



So Hull fans can maybe temper the gloom a little. But in 12 months from now, when there'll likely be a story about how losses have been slashed or a return to profitability, while elevating Pearson from forum Knighthood to Sainthood, it'd be sensible to also recall the thread frepneyboy pulled up earlier and remember they only tell you what suits - at all clubs, tbf, it'd be a bit dozey to paint yourself in a bad light.

It's an evidence-based statement based on the best available evidence - i.e. this thread. As a scientist I'm more or less obliged to draw conclusions based on available data.
