| Quote barham red="barham red"The east west bias will always be out in force regarding any of the players from over the divide but the question for me is obvious. If Dobson became available and quota or getting rid of your existing SH wasn't an issue how many teams would want him? I would bet a fair few would look to get him into the side. Long has been a great player but I doubt many would chose him over Dobson.
As for going missing in big games. The play off game against Leeds he was behind a beaten and makeshift pack and got injured in the first half of Wigan game and shouldn't have been on the pitch. The wire CC game was won by a golden point so Briers hardly wiped the floor with him.
In reality if you took your blinkers off and were offered him as a replacement for Long next year most of you would jump at it.'"
In reality I would be looking for someone better. Dobson is a decent player but not a world beater by any means. Never really been impressed with him with ball in hand. Great kicking game but thats about it IMO. If I was going to use a quota spot on a HB I'd be looking for better than Dobson.

We do a good enough job of putting prospective players off without ex players putting us in a bad light. They only have to look on here to come to the conclusion that it's not a good idea!

Don't really recall Matty Head Being a windy bugger when he was here, in all fairness i remember him playing one game at home where he was on another planet after getting smashed in a tackle and still running the show for us.

| Michael Dobson does exactly what we need him to do, A cracking little player who'll only get better and has his best years ahead of him hopefully with Hull Kingston Rovers.

| On this season's evidence I'd swap Long for Dobson, but I wouldn't if I was guaranteed Long would play every week.
Dobson is a decent player, but has failed in the nRL, he's a decent SL player but by no means top draw.

Slightly harsh but I can see where your coming from but that logic applied we only have 2 types of southern hemisphere players over here, either younger / in their prime failed ones or past it / pension seeking old ones. When you look at some of the quality players that have come over then failed ones aren't a bad option.

TBH in most I'd prefer to sign an up and coming Aussie who is out to prove themselves and earn a starting slot back home ala Colin Best as an example. Ok they may not be top drawer like your Lockyers, Thurstons, Orfords etc but aslong as they have the basics and the will to do well I dont think you can go far wrong.
Sometimes when the top drawer players come over here they see it as a step down subconsciously and so dont put 100% into coming over here and whilst being here.

Dobson never failed in the NRL so don't see where your coming from. He came over to England because he wasn't getting the necessary game time which he needed to develop his game and his career. He will definitely head back to the NRL at some time in the future. If he isn't top drawer then who else is a better kicker, organiser and general in SL who is actually fit and on the pitch every week.

I suspect his poor defence is a bigger issue across in the NRL so as you say he has a bit to work on before going back there and being a success IMO.
His injury record is second to none and the guy cant half kick a ball.

If we do sign Blake Green it will be a cracking young partnership.
