Sorry mate, you've dared to criticise the super being, your card is marked now.
There's a Bren shaped doll now in vastmans lair, along with his blow up ones, hope he doesn't get em mixed up!!

You leave me out of it aswell - I'm not interested in being the meat in a vastman/kinleycat sandwich.
I only do issues-based arguments, not personal vendettas; as Edwin Starr once said - "War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothin." Feel free to say it again y'all. Huh.

| Anyway, back on topic. In my opinion Peter Roe was dealt a crap hand by the club, he was left scratching around for players for some games, having to play youngsters who were far from ready, yet the minute he was gone and Shane McNally was in charge we appeared to bring players in, something denied to Peter.
In an interview (Radio Leeds, I think) after he left , in answer to a question about how things were at the club his comment was 'You can't sack the unsackable', I think we all know who he was talking about and let's face it at that time he was right.
I don't know Peter Roe and don't agree with some of his opinions on the game but I believe he is a decent bloke who loves the game of Rugby League who served his apprenticeship in the NFP/Championship and got his big chance to coach in Super League at Wakefield, only to discover that he'd been dealt a bum hand.
Just my opinion.

Nah, Peter Roe was sacked because he wasn't good enough for SL - end of. McNally didn't get extra cash because he was McNally, he got it because we left the CVA in 2004 allowing us to re-finance the club. Whether he could have done better with the money is pure speculation, but I'll speculate he couldn't.
Peter Roe was typical of British Coaches of that ere, stuck in his ways. Great in a part time environment but bereft of the ideas and imagination required at the higher level.
I don't blame him for failing but it does annoy that he wasn't man enough to admit he was out of his depth.
Put it this way, has Roe achieved anything since - no because deep down he knows and so does everyone else.
If the club let any coaches down then it wasn't Roe, Harbin and McNally have a small claim but Andy Kelly is the real victim. I'm not just saying this for Clans benefit, it's because I believe it. I'm not convinced AK was ever going to take us all the way but he deserved far more time than he got.
Just my opinion also.

| I once worled with a former Leeds Rhinos player and he said he could never work under Roe because of his voice.

Agree with you 100% Lindsay. Peter Roe is a man of integrity which is maybe why he didn't fit the bill at Trinity back then. He's also a very knowledgeable RL coach who, in my opinion, would have succeeded at Belle Vue given the same resources as McNally.

The question then is, before or after his time at Belle Vue, why has no other Super League club employed him? McNally scrabbled around and ended up with Phil Hassan and nearly the South African bloke who was playing union no-one had heard of.

Maybe because the popular perception is that nothing's any good unless it's SL. Although, credit to John Kear for recognising quality and potential when he sees it.

Sorry but no he wouldn't IMO.
I agree he is knowledgeable and I don't doubt his integrity but it takes more than that to run a full time team. There was nothing wrong with the integrity of the club at the time, maybe his face didn't fit - it happens. But let's not forget it was he who brought his friend Shane McNally over not the club so please explain why he did OK and Roe didn't. From what I heard at the time he lost the dressing room very early on, a certain Mr Wood being a big problem - but that was his job to sort and he didn't.
I think the reality is that Roe got his chance in the top flight 5 years to late and the game had changed to much - we all have a sell by date.
Like so many things in RL or sport in general it's best to move on.
