i once lived in an house that the address was PLATT BRIDGE, council records showed it to be in HINDLEY, postal records said SPRING VIEW, and my MP was from INCE, whillst my councillor was for ABRAM

Actually I live in Newton-le-Willows which is part of the metropolitan borough of St Helens (SADLY!) and some of the houses in my town are worth in excess of £1Million. SO yes there are houses in St Helens worth that technically.

What, like lumping St Helens in with Liverpool you mean? We don't want the plastic scouse, woolybacks! They can have their farting metropolitain borough of St Helens and leave us proper scousers in Liverpool

Following local government reorganisation in 1972 (local goverment act 1972), Newton le Willows Urban District became part of the St.Helens Metropolitan Borough. Newton has never been in the Warrington borough. Before it was in St.Helens it was in it's own urban district.

A 'postcode' is something created by the Royal Mail to help them deliver your letters.



A 'borough' is a local authority area. A council area.



Newton le Willows is a PLACE which is in the Warrington POSTAL AREA and in the St.Helens LOCAL AUTHORITY / COUNCIL AREA.



It's in Winwick PARISH and in Liverpool DIOCESE.



It's in Merseyside, but it's not at the side of the Mersey!



But - Primarily - It's called Newton le willows!



Hindley Green is in Hindley, Ince is Ince. Whelley is classed as Wigan I'll give you that. If the council turned around tm and said your area now falls under St. Helens council you woudn't then say you were from StHelens surely? Thats what some are implying here.

If your Council Tax bill comes from Wigan Council you live in Wigan.



It's just a matter of which part of Wigan you live in, i.e. Newtown, Aspull, Hindley, Standish, Whelley, Ince, etc.



By the way Local Government Reorganisation came in on the first of April 1974.
