I did this after the state of origin game, I got a special offer to move onto the sky+ downstairs...



They made a big thing of saying it's a 12 month contract, even though I very much doubt they will lasy six months

The scottish clubs and the fact that Setanta do a better job than sky.

Personal viewing is clearly affected by which provides the better service.



I also doubt I'd ever say watching NRL is more important than the future of someone's football club.

Does that not mean we are in agreement?

I am a Celtic fan and athough i will be gutted if i lose my SPL games on the TV, i think that scottish football partly deserves to be in the situation it currently finds itself.



The reason that Scottish football is shown on Setanta is because back in 2004 (i think?) the SFA decided it would be better to take a deal worth around £50 million from Setanta as opposed to the one from Sky worth around £35 million.



prior to this Sky had offered a deal far in excess of the £35 million deal but the SFA rejected it in order to squeeze more cash out of Sky. Sky then withdrew their initial offer and refused to negotiate anymore. Setanta (then a fledgeling company in the UK, who were having trouble gaining much revenue due to the fact that it was mostly made up of PPV coverange of poor events) saw this as there oppertunity to offer a deal worth less than the Sky had done.



The SFA had no choice but to accept and now find them selfs in bad situation to say the least.



IMO a lot of scottish clubs could go under if setanta cant pay up.



moving away from that though from a more personal level. i am very happy with setanta as a viewer. i get a lot of pleasure from most of there shows including NRL, Golf, UFC, SPL and free boxing events.



talking about the NRL, i was under the impression that Sky refused to re-new there coverage deal and setanta were the only folk willing to make an offer. therfore i cant see Sky trying that hard to re-secure the viewing righst if Setanta does go belly up.

the scottish clubs shouldn't be effected too much. setanta owed 3 million to the spl which would go to the clubs, the spl has already paid this amount to the clubs. the problem will be that whoever buys the rights to broadcast it will not pay as much as setanta as they overpaid for everything ( hence the they're in ). i personally am gutted, we may miss the remaining state of origin games and the nrl and im a big fan of the UFC and they have some cracking boxing coverage. wonder if they'll take my direct debit this month ?
