Is it right that the teams 5th to 8th have to win every game? One loss and you're out?

Thats right and rightly so.

Fully agree.

Teams in 8th should not even have a chance of getting the the grand final, or any game bigger than your average league game.



7th and 8th place could finish the season with more losses than wins

True, but that's how it is. To be fair 7th or 8th are never going to make it to the final.

Highest ranked teams in week 2 based on original positions are at home!



However in week 3 , If 1 & 3 progress the 2 x winners from week 1 (4 & 2) would be at home as they earned Home advantage by beating 1&3 in Week 1!

In week 2:

The loser of 1v4 will play the winner of 5v8.

The loser of 2v3 will play the winner of 6v7.

If you want 8 teams in the play offs then you end up with systems like this which means sudden death for the team that finished 5th just as for the team that finishes 8th. The only advantage of finishing 5th is a home tie against what is supposedly the weakest team in the top 8.



The five system was much better as with that only one team each week went out and there was a more tangible advantage for each place higher up the league you finished than there is now.
