Am I on my own here?

| No. I'm here too.
Briers' situation is a simple one for mine; if a replacement, who is better can be sought, then let him go. If not, give him another year.

| Agreed, who is likely to be available though? It may involve paying a transfer fee, as I'm not sure there are many stand offs out of contract at the end of the season.

Would have to be a good replacement mind. An established stand off.
One equal to the Lee Briers that carried the team on his back in 2002

| The good point of all this is that we do not need to decide right now.

| If we actually reach and win a final this season it would be utterly ridiculous to replace him. There is a clear change in him and his attitude and he played as a lone half-back on Saturday as Monaghan was completely anonymous.
You can't doubt his passion and commitment to the club; look at his reaction as the drop-goal goes over.

| If Monas sticks his tail between his legs and returns to Australia, then I would prefer we keep Briers for another 12 months just to give a new Scrum Half (or Stand Off) time to 'bed in'. If Monas stays then, assuming we can find someone better (which I think will be far easier said than done), it would probably be the right time to say goodbye.

| Monas might have been "anonymous" in attack, but the lad can't half tackle above his weight.
If only he would accept that he is a better hooker than half back.

I don't think we signed and/or need him for his defensive qualities.

| We have won 7 of our last 10 games against SL opposition, Briers was injured for three of the 10 - no prizes for guessing which ones.
I just don't understand why everyone wants to see him gone.
If Smith is as good a coach as everyione seems to think he is, then he should be able to keep him focused and ensure we get the best from him - and that best is better than most half backs playing RL right now.
