| For all the posturing between fans I don't think there's too many outstanding candidates. Long didn't win his three Lance Todds at Wembley and Edwards/Keiron Cunningham never won any Lance Todds anywhere which rules out all three of them for me. Perhaps the statue should be of the victorious Wigoon captain from the first Wembley final instead of somebody who just happened to have a good run of form at Wembley.

| Quote number 6="number 6"would think it would have to be someone who is well known in the game that the non rugby league supporting public would recognise
billy boston or clive sullivan would probably be my choice'"
You really think the non rugby league supporting public would recognise these two??
If its to be a statue of someone the non rugby league supporting public would recognise it has to be Martin offiah or Shaun Edwards

Andy Greg never lost there and would run Edwards close imo. Possibly one of the two of them similar to the NRL trophy if such an image exists.

True, but Edwards lifted it as a captain too.

| If Shaun Edwards is chosen surely everyone outside RL (plus those too young to remember him in RL) will assume it's because he's connected with kick and clap and wonder why he's there.

| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!"It has to be the person with the most Lance Todd trophies. Wembley is synonymous with the Challenge Cup final and therefore the player who has impact more on the finals should be chosen.
Sean Long is also a character that transcends the sports' traditional boundaries, often being a personality so vivid he made the front and back page of daily papers on the same day during his heyday.
He is also a very attractive and iconic figure that would lead to an increase in publicity for the sport. It would become a social alter, people would flock to it like they do to Graceland.'"
I take it you aren't serious?

| I personally do not think the statue should be of any one player, it should just be a Rugby League player holding the Challenge Cup, at the base a list of all the Rugby teams who formed the Northern Union, a list of notable dates i.e. first Challenge Cup, the statue should not only highlight the current game of Rugby League but the history.
The main difference between Association Football fans and Rugby League fans is that the Rugby supporters are fans of the game, hence the Wembley connection for all fans, where football fans are supporters of one team and the sport is secondary.
In my humble opinion of course

| What about Wally Lewis probably the greatest player never to play in a challenge cup final.
But if the RFL have to fund the statue it would be Rob Burrows look at all the money they would save on casting metal........
