A blurry still image is "clear".

Said for many years now that Tony Smith isn't good in important CLOSE games. With the expection of his 2004 GF win with Leeds, his wins in CC finals and semi's and the 2007 GF are done by getting away from the opposition. Scoreboard close in the final 20 mins his team almost always loses in big occasion games.

I thought it was clear enough to over-rule the on field decision.

However, to me it's just another reason to get rid of the VR. If that try had been given solely be the referee we wouldn't be having the debate.

The touch judge is also in a very good position to make the call.

I was gonna say... if that's clear then they need to get the Sky super zoom on the grassy knoll and finally identify JFKs shooter.

Hopefully Warrington's confidence will be shot after loosing like that and we can take advantage next week

How do you define close? Because over 2 scores ahead and a man ahead with 20 mins to go is sufficient an advantage to not consider close. This wasn't the 'tony smith close game trophy on the line' syndrome.

That Wigan were well back in it after scoring one try suggests a close game, as well as the fact they had time to get back in it.

The way they lost that had echos of Hudds losing to Leeds last year to Hall's last second try and they went on to get rolled over by Wigan in the playoffs........although Hudds rolled over every year in the playoffs I suppose.

It did look a dodgy call, but surely in this day & age, the images should be of a better quality.

There's also an argument that Thaler did Warrington a favour giving the try, it was an obvious shoulder charge and a strong case for a penalty try with the conversion under the sticks not on the touch line.

If there's one thing that needs to be of better quality these days is CCTV in most shops. Watched Crimewatch this week - horrific.

Just seen that incident. I guess RL will make the national press tomorrow. If it does, then he'll rightly get a very long ban. If the press don't lay in he'll no doubt get a slap on the wrist.

Absolutely awful decision. Brings the video ref into disrepute. You cannot go benefit of the doubt because he was only a little bit in touch and only a fraction before he grounded the ball. The footage showed he was in touch before he grounded the ball and that is all the evidence anyone should ever need.

2016 video technology is a joke and the knee to the head is a 6 match ban

It's time that they stopped this stupid situation by taking the decision away from teh ref and going back to how it was with the VR making the decision

I'd get rid of it completely.

I can accept an on field referee getting a decision wrong.

It's embarrassing when a video referees makes stupid decisions that fly in the face of the evidence in front of them. Unfortunately, it is happening regularly and has been since the VR was introduced.



However, more importantly I think the VR takes detracts from the experience of watching the game. I can't celebrate when my team scores a try for fear it's going to be sent to the VR and ruled out. Likewise,when the opposition score I'm hoping that we are going to 'get out of jail' and the VR will find something to rule it out.

I much prefer the experience of watching games with no VR to interfere.

That is the stupidest thing, we seem to have gotten to a position where the decision doesnt need to be wrong, it needs to be egregiously wrong so video referees are sending down decisions knowing them to be wrong but somehow 'not wrong enough'



It must surely be the end to this referee try/no try nonsense that anyone with a brain could see was nonsense to start with, sadly its taken a wrong decision deciding the LLS.



Phil Clarke justifying it last night because 'he wants refs to make a decision' is the most idiotic justification of them all. The ref isnt making the decision, if he was he wouldnt refer it to the VR

For a lot of those however, you wouldnt see those tries being scored at all because the ref would have blown before hand. So in that respect it adds excitement to it, because a try disallowed is more exciting than a try not being scored at all.

Despite the bold claims, it was never 'clearly' on the line.



One image looked marginally iffy. But remember, when an image blurs the edges of objects expand, therefore that very blurred image can never be deemed conclusive when you're talking millimetres. No other images show him touching the line even paused at the same moment.



The on-field ref gave 'try' and there was never enough to overturn. That's the point.



That said, I'd be peeved if it had been given against my team despite understanding why.
