| Quote 74'="74'"Two Grand Final wins and a World Club Challenge win in 3 years and he's not good enough?'"
Yes, he built those title-winning squads and everything about them from scratch all by himself of course.
Even the most casual observer can see Leeds have gone from playing genuinely brilliant RL at times to a team of flat-track bullies who get off on hassling officials and complaining about every decision going against them. Fingers crossed they can get back to being a great RL side rather than a team of whiney bitches.
Quote 74'="Barry_McKenzie"I cant believe Leeds wanted to replace Bluey (a bloke who has won stuff as coach of Leeds [ieven with an inherited squad[/i) with a bloke who is clueless at best and whose claim to fame was he wasn't good enough to coach Harlequins.'"
I think you'll find he won stuff [i because[/i he inherited that squad. A couple of years on and his coaching has taken hold and Leeds won...nothing. And never looked like doing.

| Quote Asgardian13="Asgardian13"You seem to enjoy writing rubbish. How can coaching Quins for four years be interpreted as 'not good enough to coach Quins'? And who says Leeds wanted to replace him? Hetherington is quoted as saying he wanted him to stay. No doubt you are closer to Leeds's real intentions than the chairman of the club.'"
And what did he achieve at Quins in that time?
Maybe it was the...ummm.... hang on... perhaps it was that win against.......ah no.. ummmm.
He was at Quins for so long because they couldnt afford to sack him.
Bluey said he wanted away from Leeds a long time ago... hence why they got McDermott in.
But why on earth they chose him is a mystery.

We indulged him for a while because he did, for all his faults, buy in to the 'Quins project', and he made a demonstrable commitment to bringing kids through. I think he stayed on a season too long, and I doubt honestly we had the money to fire him then or any earlier even if we'd wanted to.

Tony Smith inherited a bloody good squad as well. Does that make Darryl Powell the key to Leeds' 2004 and 2007 successes?

I suspect the groundwork he laid had a lot more to do with it than many gave him credit for, if you are looking for a serious reply.

| I don't get the majority of comments on here. McClennan did a great job for Leeds. Maintaining a successful team and being up there at the end of the season AGAIN despite losing some of the most talented players in the country for long periods deserves great credit.
I am surprised by the timing though - As the press release says I thought he would have stayed for 2011 and brought McDermott up to speed. With Poching et all already gone it looks like it's going to be a steep learning curve for McDermott and his new team

Remember that submarine out of "UFO"? the one that had that plane on the front that suddenly shot up out of the depths and hammered the bad guys supposedly well out of reach above the waves? I'll settle for that kind of submarine analogy...
'"
I think the submarine being referred to is the Kursk...

Not to mention he coached NZ to tri-nations victory, where they nilled the Aussies in the final.

| Quote The Penguin="The Penguin"In terms of his previous record, he certainly isn't in the same league as previous coaches Leeds have had in the recent past.'"
Not being funny, but would you care to list Tony Smith and Daryl Powell's great coaching successes before they took on the Leeds job?
If anything McLennan was the highest profile coaching recruitment at the club since Leeds brought Doug Laughton in from Widnes. While his club record was nothing special he'd had success with the Kiwis.
